Yankees general manager took questions after trade deadline moves
As the team’s payroll continues to balloon year after year, the roster construction continues to fall short on living up to the promise of championship or bust — they’ve been a bust since 2009, 14 years and counting. But it’s not for lack of trying, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and Cashman continue to insist, much to a loyal fan base’s dismay. On Thursday, Cashman took something of a radio tour around New York, fielding questions from multiple shows about the Yankees’ trade deadline moves.
“You got an MVP, a Cy Young Award winner, you got an MVP type of candidate imported that’s big money.” But they continue to fall short, despite having a top-three payroll in baseball year after year. They continue to get outperformed by teams with significantly low expenditures — see the Rays, who have been to the World Series more than the Yankees since 2008 despite having a fraction of the payroll.
