“I know that you want to win. But the highest of urgency to win, I have not seen that the last couple of years quite the way we used to in the past.”
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman got an earful Wednesday from WFAN ’s Brandon Tierney over the team’s quiet MLB trade deadline on Tuesday.
“If the urgency was always there, why was Gallo given the leash that he was? Why was Hicks given the leash that he was?” Tierney said of former Yankees who struggled for long stretches before the team gave up on them.“I know that Hal Steinbrenner wants to win. And I know that you want to win. But the highest of urgency to win, I have not seen that the last couple of years quite the way we used to in the past. I haven’t. And I don’t think I’m alone. So that’s why I ask.
“These are just examples. All designed – as the payrolls go higher – of improving your chances, of trying to stay in it, trying to fight for it. So I would refute what you’re saying. It doesn’t make any sense.”
