They may also object to the President’s reported agreement to $10bn in funding cuts for government enforcement efforts to unmask corporate tax cheats. It was only one week ago that Biden, in Hiroshima for the G7 summit, told reporters that he would “not agree to a deal that… protects wealthy tax cheats… while putting food assistance at risk.”
Even before the agreement was reached, Trump-backed lawmakers accused him of giving too much ground to Biden in the negotiations. They may be especially irked by reports that McCarthy agreed to no caps on government spending after 2025, despite relentlessly proclaiming his intention to cure Biden of his addiction to vast public expenditure.
While voters may be encouraged that the bipartisan agreement has removed the sword of Damocles hanging over the country, big business is not so sure.
