A teenager who was trapped in quicksand up to her chest has told how she thought she would die during a dramatic rescue effort

"My partner tried everything to get me out. He pulled on me as much as he could, he was a hero, but I was stuck. My leg wasn't budging at all." For four agonising hours, Chenai could only watch as the water rose up to her chest while mercy crews battled to pull her out. She has now credited them with keeping her calm and saving her life.

I was terrified, freezing cold, shaking uncontrollably and it was pitch black."I was speaking to the coastguard and he was just trying to keep me calm. He did a great job." As she was taken back to shore, Chenai went into shock and was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Thankfully, after a few hours, she was given the all-clear and allowed to go home.
