A Cleveland woman is desperately seeking help as her home deteriorates around her. Daisey Washington has been dealing with severe water damage, leading to gaping holes in her bedroom ceiling and the kitchen ceiling nearly collapsing. Despite repeated requests for repairs through the tenant portal, Washington claims that no action has been taken. Fearing for her safety, she has moved her belongings into other rooms, living in a state of constant anxiety. Fortunately, after 19 News contacted the property management company and the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), Washington was connected with someone who can expedite her move to a safer dwelling.
CLEVELAND , Ohio - A woman is asking for help as her home crumbles around her, living for months with water damage opening up her bedroom ceiling.“This is my kitchen; the ceiling fell in the other day,” said Daisey Washington as she walked past her dining-room-turned-bedroom into the back of her home.She explained that the first major crack in the ceiling happened in her bedroom when water damage opened up a huge hole above her bed.
She showed 19 News screenshots from the tenant portal, showing her requests for work on the problem areas, but says usually no one ever came, and if someone did, a fix was never made. “Y’all don’t care about how a person lives? Y’all ain’t living like this; why would you expect a person to live like this?” said Washington.
Washington also says she is working thought the process with CMHA to get out but was told by a thrid-party inpsector it may take a month to move.
