Many witnesses who were near the scene of a medical jet crash in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday night spoke to NBC Philadelphia and shared their harrowing accounts. A man working at a gas station just two blocks from the crash site recounted his experience to NBC10's Siobhan McGirl, describing the chaotic moments as the plane went down. He said he was at the door when he heard a loud, deafening sound followed by the building shaking violently.
Immediately after the impact, he saw a massive fire raging from inside the gas station.The man, fearing for the safety of those inside, tried to keep the door shut, preventing anyone from venturing outside during the dangerous aftermath. He described a scene of utter devastation, with thick black smoke billowing into the air and the pungent smell of jet fuel overwhelming the area. A line of cars was completely engulfed in flames, and a nearby home also caught fire, adding to the horror unfolding before him. First responders arrived quickly, working diligently to secure the area and keep people away from the rapidly spreading inferno.Another witness, who was inside the Bath and Body Works store in the Roosevelt Mall, described the moment the plane crashed as a 'huge explosion.' Aaron Baskerville, reporting for NBC Philadelphia, spoke with the individual who said that the entire building shook violently when the impact occurred. He recounted the terrifying sight of a person on fire in the aftermath. Meanwhile, Gustavo Chaves, who was at home with his wife, Sam, near the crash site, described feeling a sudden jolt as if an earthquake had struck. Looking outside, he was met with an eerie orange glow illuminating the sky. Chaves recalled, 'The whole house shook. And then I was like, there's an earthquake. Because, you know, (when) it happened I was like, 'It's an earthquake again.' I opened the window and it's like daylight outside, like complete, just orange. And I was like, 'Something really bad happened.'
