A medical transport jet crashed Friday evening in Northeast Philadelphia, resulting in injuries and potential fatalities. The incident sparked multiple fires and scattered debris across the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, while local officials are providing support to the affected community.

Hundreds of firefighters and first responders rushed to Northeast Philadelphia after a plane carrying people crashed Friday evening. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Cottman Avenue and Bustleton Avenue near the Roosevelt Mall. There were initial reports of fatalities, but law enforcement had yet to confirm any further details. A witness at a nearby diner reported that a piece of debris crashed through the window, striking a customer in the head.

The crash triggered multiple fires, scattering debris across the scene. Residents reported hearing loud explosions, mistaking them for thunder. A worker from a nearby business described seeing a massive explosion of light. Ring Doorbell footage shared with FOX 29 captured the plane seemingly falling from the sky followed by a large explosion and billowing smoke.Authorities later confirmed that at least six people were transported to local hospitals with injuries. Three were treated and released, while the remaining three were listed in stable condition. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) initially reported that two people were onboard the Learjet 55 when it departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. However, Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the company operating the flight, stated that there were four crew members and two passengers, a pediatric patient and an escort, on board. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy also reported six people on board through a statement on X. The exact number of passengers and fatalities remains unclear as investigations continue.Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker urged residents to stay indoors and avoid the active crash site. She stressed that several homes and vehicles were impacted and advised calling 911 if any debris was encountered. Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences and assured the community that state emergency crews were ready to provide any necessary support. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance also offered their thoughts and prayers for the victims. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be investigating the incident thoroughly
