Some Wisconsin parents have pulled their daughters from their school sports team over safety concerns that a transgender student would participate alongside them and share their changing areas.

"They're just not used to the ball coming at them that hard," Ryan Gusick, a parent of one of the girls, said.

"A lot of these girls are specifically quitting this team because they're concerned for their safety," he said. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association bans discrimination against student athletes for reasons based on race, disability, and gender identity, according to the report. "The district cares about the well-being of every student. All decisions regarding a student's ability to participate in co-curricular athletics/activities are made in accordance with [Title IX] law, board policy, and WIAA regulations," according to a statement from the school district. The district works with transgender students and respects their"legal right" to use the locker room of their preference.

"If they choose to use the locker room they gender identify with, students who may have concerns the District will work with to provide support," officials said.
