Storms are cycling through the state of Alaska with more than snow. Rain, gusty winds and mild temperatures are part of the winter storm parade.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Wet weather is anticipated for much of Alaska the rest of the week. A series of winter storms bring messy weather in the form of snow, rain, gusty winds, and mild temperatures. Roads in the city of Anchorage were slick, as temperatures dropped below freezing at night and rose above it during the day.
The current storm over Alaska is generating warnings for heavy snow and gusting winds. Weather alerts line the west coast of the state and work inland to the middle Yukon Valley. Snowfall amounts are likely to be highest over the western Brooks Range slopes, where some 9 to 14 inches and winds to 35 mph are prompting the warning. The warning will be in place through 6 a.m. Wednesday. In advance of the next storm, there is a coastal flood watch set to start Wednesday evening through early Friday along the Kuskokwim Delta Coast from the mouth of the Kuskokwim River to Tununak. Water levels are expected to be at their highest Thursday night to Friday, coinciding with the high tide. Southcentral will see coastal rain, and the wet weather will impact southeast Alaska on Wednesday. Kodiak clocked a wind gust of 55 mph. Portage recorded 1.28 inches of mostly rain. Turnagain Pass is still set to see heavy snow through Tuesday night. The cycle of low-pressure systems will last through the week, with even more chances of snow into the weekend.Fairbanks bar employee found shot to death in parking lot; man arrested on murder chargesFairbanks bar employee’s brother remembers shooting victim as ‘a world inside of a person’Winter weather takes hold across parts of Alaska, with warm weather remaining
