City officials confirmed a technical team has created a stabilization plan after the roof collapsed Wednesday at the Mayfield Heights City Hall building.

Updated: Jan. 28, 2026, 1:01 p.m.Fire Chief Bruce Elliott reports the ceiling shifted Tuesday night before collapsing by one foot overnight in the kitchen area at Mayfield Heights City Hall. MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - A partial roof collapse inside the building department at Mayfield Heights City Hall prompted city officials to install emergency shoring and develop a stabilization plan.

Fire Chief Bruce Elliott noticed a shift in the drop ceiling Tuesday night, with the problem persisting Wednesday morning. Overnight, the roof collapsed by about one foot in the affected area, according to Elliott. The collapse occurred in the kitchen area within the building department, located at 6154 Mayfield Road. The issue did not impact the building department offices or any other part of city hall. “A contractor has been called and is scheduled to be on site today for further evaluation,” Elliott said. City officials installed shoring to prevent a total collapse. A technical team has created a plan to stabilize the area. Officials contributed the roof collapse to Winter Storm Fern that swept through Northeast Ohio this week. The storm blanketed the area with inches of snow and caused extreme frigid conditions that began on Sunday morning.
