An Anchorage woman feels lucky she wasn't injured when her neighbor shot into her home.
‘When I saw the bullet hole, I ... freaked out’: Anchorage woman feels lucky to have escaped neighbor’s bullets in homeANCHORAGE, Alaska - Connie Ernst has lived in her east Anchorage home on Jelinek Place for over 30 years. For all that time, she said Lynda McRae was her neighbor.“She has been shooting a gun off and on probably at least a dozen times in the last month, but it really came to a head on Monday night,” Ernst said on Friday.
“‘The dispatcher kept me on the phone for quite a long time because, as a next-door neighbor, I had the best idea what was going on,” Ernst said. “And at some point in time, several times, the dispatcher could actually hear the shots fired because she was firing repeatedly.“My poor dog was just clinging to me,” Ernst said.Eventually, McRae was taken into custody and no one was injured, although Ernst said she definitely feared for her safety while the incident was ongoing.
“That’s me, I was giving them water,” Ernst said. “Was she targeting me? Or just shooting in general? You’d have to ask her, but I’m assuming since she specifically pointed out she had a neighbor that was an enemy that was helping the homeless, that’s me, guilty. Guilty as charged.”
