West Lancashire Borough Council has voted in a new mayor and consort
The new Mayor of West Lancashire and her consort are both from Skelmersdale and first met at Edge Hill College, now Edge Hill University.
Projects include fund-raising for a memorial bench for the late Eleanor Maddocks, the founder of West Lancashire Women’s Refuge, which helps women escaping domestic violence, abuse or other problems. Other activities include supporting a food bank, a community garden and a ‘warm house’ to ease problems for people facing with high home energy bills.
Regarding her new title, Mayor Nixon said: “It is an honour to receive the role of Mayor and I am looking forward to representing our fantastic borough and championing the great place we live in. I am excited about the opportunities I will have to meet the incredible people, from all walks of life, who make West Lancashire such a special place.
The outgoing Mayor, Coun Marilyn Westley, a Conservative councillor, was thanked for her service over the past year. Reflecting on her year, Coun Westley said: “It was spectacular and magnificent and every superlative you can think of. A unique year for any mayor to hold this office.
