Hill is a giant in the crease at 6-foot-6, 215 pounds. Most goalies that size have limited flexibility, and he struggled with it at times. He said when he hit his growth spurt growing up he lost a lot of his flexibility and would often have tightness in his lower back. Now stuck at home, with hours of time on his hands, he decided to dive into yoga headfirst.
“It just makes you feel good,” he said. “It keeps your mind at ease. You’re just not thinking about anything. With yoga you’re so in the moment. It tells you to breathe in, do this, breathe out. Just that flow, you’re thinking about the breathing and the stretch, you’re not thinking about anything else. I feel like it just relaxes your mind and gets you focused.”
During the starting lineup announcements before the game, the public address announcer belted out Hill’s name. Smoke fired from the corners of the rink and the sellout crowd cheered louder than for any other player.
