KUALA LUMPUR: Umno respects the due process by the Palace to resolve the political upheaval but, at the same time, will prepare for the possibility of snap polls, says the party's secretary-general, Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He also said the leadership at all levels had been directed not to speculate on the decision of the King and to show respect for the due process, according to the Constitution.
"I have released a circular that the election machinery be activated together with PAS as Muafakat Nasional to prepare for the snap polls, and we have given guidance on the mechanism of cooperation between us two parties at all levels," said Annuar, at a press conference on Tuesday . "There must be no speculation whatsoever that will interrupt the process that is being being handled by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. We therefore, have asked all leadership of Umno to only make use of news which have been verified," said Annuar.
As to the statement by Dr Mahathir that Tan Sri Muhyiddin, as a possible PM candidate, may be more open to accepting Umno in a united government, Annuar said Dr Mahathir was entitled to his own opinion.
