Don’t miss our weekly town hallby MARIA TEDESCO | The National News DeskARLINGTON, VIRGINIA - JUNE 22: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Dan Caine discusses the mission details of a strike on Iran during a news conference at the Pentagon on June 22, 2025 in Arlington, Virginia. U.S. President Donald Trump gave an address to the nation last night after three Iranian nuclear facilities were struck by the U.S. military. "What the Supreme Leader was rip out a page of the playbook of after the death of Qasem Soleimani, when he attacked US forces in Iraq," Rubin said. "But he made sure that the Americans were well aware so that they could take cover, because what he wants to do is show his own people that he's acting, but he doesn't want to engender a large-scale response." Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said the attack was "successfully thwarted" and the Iranian missiles were intercepted with no casualties. Iran said the attack in Qatar matched the number of bombs dropped by the U.S. on its nuclear sites this weekend, signaling its likely desire to de-escalate. When it comes to the U.S. strike on Iran's facilities, Rubin said the uranium, which is used to create their nuclear arsenal, was not there."Ultimately, the Iranians were able to sneak out that uranium," Rubin said. "Somehow, somewhere, we need to be able to gain possession of that. Otherwise, it could be used to reconstitute Iran's nuclear program." There have been reports FBI Director Kash Patel increased efforts to surveil sleeper cells linked to Hezbollah in the U.S,Sleeper cells can involve countries outside the Middle East, including Mexico, Rubin said.
