Following a public battle over its financial transparency, Visit Hershey & Harrisburg released some documents on Tuesday, including contracts with Maria Haste, wife of former Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste. However, some requested information remains withheld.

The initial 2016 contract said Maria would be paid $2,000 per month to help increase the organization’s partnership revenue by undertaking “client partnership program development,” including promoting partnership programs to existing partners, providing information about prospective partners and making introductions.

In 2018, a detailed fee structure was implemented that paid Maria specific amounts based on her work, including visits she conducted , weekly meetings she had with Visit Hershey & Harrisburg , leads converted to partners and a monthly report submitted to President and CEO Mary Smith . The contract also included a five-month evaluation period.
Jeff Haste previously provided his wife’s 2019 tax form to PennLive, which shows a total income of $18,000, or $1,500 per month, from the organization. Based on the contract’s terms, that suggests Maria did not successfully convert any leads to partnerships that year, though neither Maria nor Visit Hershey & Harrisburg immediately answered questions about her pay. Smith is out of the office on medical leave.
