Los Angeles Shalhevet pulls away in fourth quarter for 62-52 win
Victory Christian Academy went as far as it could last season in girls basketball before losing in the Southern California Regional finals.This season, with the state championship back in play, the Knights have been angling to return to the final game and win this time.Los Angeles Shalhevet overcame a big push in the third quarter by Victory Christian to pull away in the fourth quarter in a battle of two teams searching for that first state finals berth.
Shalhevet goes against the winner of the Northern California regional final between No. 4 San Anselmo San Domenico and No. 2 San Francisco University.“This one hurts more than last year,” Knights coach Kenneth Lucas said. “Our seniors could have taken advantage of the situation to go to the state finals in Sacramento.Shalhevet outscored the San Diego Section champions 14-10 in the final stanza thanks to three 3-pointers by sophomore Arielle Grossman.
“There wasn’t much we could do about their shooting all night,” Lucas said. “We wanted to penetrate and create some fouls, but that did not work.
