UTSA reacts to Houston coach Dana Holgorsen’s remarks on fake crowd noise at Alamodome
UTSA athletics director Lisa Campos also responded to Holgorsen’s comments during a midday appearance on Fox 29, saying the only time UTSA played artificial crowd noise in the Alamodome was during the 2020 season. The practice was permitted that year to offset reduced stadium capacity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let me assure you, given our fan base, how loud our fans are, there is no reason we ever need to pump in crowd noise,” Campos said. “With the exception of, you do recall during COVID, that was allowed. But even then, we didn’t really do it.” The Roadrunners are hoping to generate one of the largest crowds in the program’s history Saturday, when they will unveil the banner for last year’s Conference USA championship during a pregame ceremony.
UTSA on Wednesday also opened upper-level tickets to the game for the first time, selling $10 seats behind the Roadrunners’ bench. “I think this is going to motivate our fans, that they know how loud of a crowd they are,” Campos said. “They know what an environment the Alamodome can be when they’re in there, and they saw that last year. I think this is going to motivate our fans, and it’s going to be a really fun day.”
