A Lamborghini SUV fire led to a small but urgent recall as automakers rush to inspect and replace defective fuel pump components
Audi , Porsche , and Lamborghini are recalling 122 vehicles over fire risk. The high-pressure fuel pump may not have been properly fastened. A Urus recently caught fire while another leaked fuel into the sump.
Volkswagen owns some of the most prestigious brands in the world, but three of them have been ensnared in a fuel pump recall. While only a handful of vehicles are impacted, there is a fire risk. Porsche is being the hardest hit as the company is recalling 107 Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid, and Cayenne vehicles from the 2024-2026 model years. The government says the fasteners that secure the high pressure fuel pump may not have been tightened properly, which can cause a fuel leak. More: Ford Warns Thousands Of Owners To Park Outside After Fires Reported In Popular SUVs This increases the risk of a fire, which is sadly not just hypothetical. Earlier this month, a vehicle fire was reported by “another brand within the group that uses engines built on the same production line.” The fire involved a 2025 Lamborghini Urus and was accompanied by a fuel smell as well as a warning light. No injuries were reported, but the event was quickly followed by another incident. While there was no fire this time, a Urus ended up with 4.2 gallons of gas in the oil sump. According to the government agency, the “initial tightening step was not performed using the standard production tool” due to a scanner malfunction. Workers then botched the repair as the “required final tightening was not carried out according to specification.” This means there might not be a tight connection between the fuel lines and pump. The issue is being blamed on Porsche and it also impacts 14 Urus crossovers from 2025 as well as a single 2025 Audi SQ7. This means it’s a relatively small recall, although that’s little consolation for the owner whose pricey performance crossover went up in flames. To address the issue, dealers will inspect and tighten the connections as needed. Technicians will also replace the high pressure fuel pump and fuel lines, if necessary.
