Texas State University students and faculty led a protest on campus on Monday as a professor's lawsuit over his termination heads to court. Texas State University students and faculty led a protest on campus on Monday as a professor's lawsuit over his termination heads to court.

His firing came after videos of a 2024 presentation by Robinson surfaced online. Robinson was speaking at Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair in Asheville. His talk was titled "Strategic Lessons from the Palestinian Resistance." While some argue that Robinson's right to free speech has been violated, others agree with his termination, arguing his presentation incited violence.Monday, students and faculty gathered in an "expressive activity area" on campus to voice their support for Robinson. Among the supporters was Dr. Thomas Alter, a professor who was also let go from the university this year after off-campus remarks surfaced online. "I support him. We stand with each other. We've had similar things happen when we were both speaking in a private capacity," Alter said. Representatives from the Texas State Employees Union called Robinson's termination a violation of free speech.Under Texas State's Expressive Activity Policy, students and employees have the right to peacefully gather in the common outdoor areas on campus to engage in expressive activity—or to listen and observe—so long as it's lawful and doesn't disrupt the university's operations."They're Zionists," another audience member announced. Robinson is heard asking the audience how they wanted to respond to the people livestreaming the event.Moments later, a group of people is seen surrounding the pro-Israel live streamers."They proceeded to throw us out of the library, the public library," Moritz told CBS Austin. According to a press release by the Asheville Police Department, two people were charged in connection to an assault investigation. "The victims told officers another attendee forcefully took one of their cell phones, after which a large crowd proceeded to attack and assault them," the department wrote in 2024."What's very clear here is that his behavior is against ethical, moral, and professional standards that Texas State represents," he said.A motion filed in federal court is asking for a preliminary injunction to block his termination. The motion denied Robinson's involvement in the altercation during his 2024 speech. "The video indicates that a scuffle broke out following Professor Robinson’s talk. Professor Robinson did not incite this scuffle," the motion reads. "Professor Robinson was never charged with any wrongdoing because he did not engage in any wrongdoing." Robinson's attorneys claim that his constitutional rights have been violated, arguing that the 2024 presentation was made as a private citizen outside of his role at the university. "It's not just Texas State, and it's not just faculty, it's students, too. From everything we have seen, Texas universities are currently at war against the First Amendment. And they seem not to be concerned about the consequences of violating the First Amendment, but they should be," Robinson's attorney, Samantha Harris, said in an interview last week."Texas State University does not discuss active litigation," a spokesperson for the university told CBS Austin last week in response to a request for comment.BULVERDE, Texas - Hill College Prep High School has been put on lockdown.Principal Julie Wiley said in the alert that local law enforcement is on campus.
