Debra Tice, mother of missing Marine Austin Tice, expresses hope for Trump's administration after years of silence from Biden. She met with Syria's new leadership and visited notorious prisons in the country.
President Trump has pledged to do everything in his power to bring home Austin Tice , a Marine veteran who disappeared over 12 years ago while working as a journalist in Syria , according to his mother. Trump's team reached out even before his return to the White House on Monday, a stark contrast to the four years of silence from President Biden's administration, Debra Tice said Sunday.
“I have great hope that the Trump administration will sincerely engage in diligent work to bring Austin home,” the hopeful mother stated during her first visit to Damascus since insurgents overthrew President Bashar al-Assad last month. “His people have already reached out to me. I haven’t experienced that for the last four years,” she said, referring to Biden's time in office. \Tice was last heard from in a video released weeks after his disappearance, showing him blindfolded and held by armed men, uttering “Oh, Jesus.” Biden had stated in December that “Assad should be held accountable” for Tice's absence, while only claiming that his administration had “no direct evidence” of his well-being. Debra Tice reported a productive meeting with Ahmad al-Sharaa, the leader of Syria's new administration, who she described as “dedicated and determined” to help reunite her with her son and assist others who remain missing. \She also visited two military intelligence prisons in Syria, infamous for mass incarceration and systematic torture, calling them an “unbelievably horrible nightmare.” “Austin, if you can somehow hear this, I love you. I know you're not giving up, and neither am I,” Debra Tice pleaded. President Trump's team has vowed to bring Tice home, a mission the outgoing Biden administration failed to accomplish. He is among tens of thousands who have vanished in Syria since 2011 when nationwide protests against Assad escalated into a devastating civil war
