In 2015, Rose and Abrous relaunched Genghis Cohen, a Fairfax District Chinese restaurant in the New York City tradition that had been open since 1983, after its previous owners were ready to sell it for parts.
Once La Dolce Vita was theirs, the pair quickly got to work, bringing in interior designer Victoria Gillet ofto help reimagine the intimate 75-seat restaurant while honoring its existing layout of a dining room with booths only and an intimate bar; retaining its classic design attributes while imbuing the space with a chic, modern touch.
“We noticed many old-school Italian restaurants had animals often associated with luxury Italian car brands as their emblem,” says Rose. “We went with the cheetah, which can be seen throughout the restaurant on the carpet, stained glass, the front door handle, and in small touches like our business cards.
