Iconic dance hall, Harris County Fair to get new home at 165-acre site in Cypress area

For more than a century, the two-stepping spot hosted everything from weddings to concerts by music icons such as Willie Nelson, Percy Sledge and Merle Haggard.The dance hall had been in the Stockton family for generations, but the decline of such honky-tonk style venues and the growth of Houston’s suburban areas led to the venue’s demise, the Chronicle previously reported.
“It will be a brand new building but with the old flooring and the old walls. The old building was built in the 1880s originally and it was in really bad shape,” Stockton said. He also salvaged the bars and stairway, according to Avison Young. “It will be amazing to bring this building back to life in this new location," he added.
Stockton wants to host a large barbecue cookout on the site in October, but the actual fair likely won’t occur at the property until fall 2024.
