Portia looks annoyed at Rachel's bachelorette party in Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen
The Duffer Brothers made a bloody splash with Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and it’s the perfect reminder to watch Netflix’s best horror show of all time. In an era where horror TV shows are abundant, it takes something truly special to stand out against the crowd.
Netflix’s Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is just that. The series – created, written, and showrun by Haley Z. Boston – explores the existential fear of marrying the wrong person. The producing duo and Boston were the perfect partnership. As promised, Rachel and Nicky’s nuptials have a disastrous ending that’s so much fun to watch. Between the compelling characters and the exciting plot twists, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is nearly perfect. Netflix’s best horror series of all time, which holds a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, has many similarities to Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, making it the perfect next watch. The Haunting Of Hill House Is Netflix's Best Horror TV Show Even though it’s not my personal favorite, I’m willing to admit that The Haunting of Hill House is Netflix’s best horror TV show. Mike Flanagan blends a family drama with a haunted-house story in the Netflix flagship miniseries. The Haunting of Hill House cast brings three-dimensional and empathetic characters to life, all of whom are haunted by past traumas. The storytelling in The Haunting of Hill House is truly impeccable. The horror is a slowburn, but it never drags. Despite taking its time, The Haunting of Hill House is packed with genuine scares. “The Bent-Neck Lady” is one of the most brilliant episodes in a horror show, providing a truly incredible plot twist. Understandably, The Haunting of Hill House received fantastic viewership and excellent ratings. Plus, it might have been snubbed at the Golden Globes and Emmys, but the show was nominated for and won multiple genre-specific awards. The show won the Bram Stoker Best Screenplay Award, Fangoria’s Chainsaw Award for Best TV Series, and Best TV Presentation at the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. The latter two award shows are basically the Golden Globes and Oscars of horror. The Haunting Of Hill House Is The Perfect Next Watch After Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen After finishing all eight episodes of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, horror lovers won’t want the thrills to end. Luckily, The Haunting of Hill House is the perfect next watch. The Mike Flanagan TV show is a quick and easy watch, with just 10 episodes, each around an hour long. Just like Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, The Haunting of Hill House features impeccable cinematography and scoring. All the technical elements heighten the story and characters. Both Netflix TV shows explore themes of complex family relationships without feeling heavy-handed. The Haunting of Hill House and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen also refuse to be constrained by genre rules. The Netflix horror series weave together classic horror tropes while still providing a fresh and compelling story. Neither of them feels derivative. Victoria Pedretti's Characters Have Shocking Similarities In The Two Netflix Horror Shows Victoria Pedretti appears as Nell in The Haunting of Hill House and Ali in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and she knocks it out of the park in both shows. Although she has extremely limited screentime in these Netflix horrors, she steals every scene. Interestingly, the characters in these horror series have similarities. Nell and Ali are both haunted by their own inevitable deaths. Nell has to live with the Bent-Neck Lady appearing to her. Meanwhile, for Ali, it’s the invisible character Death. Ali might not be able to see him, but she certainly feels his presence. Death and his curse are what cause her feelings of dread. The characters’ experiences with the supernatural are linked to their own family, even though neither is aware of this. Their fear and paranoia are attributed to mental issues. Then, Nell and Ali both die in unexpected and horrific ways. The two characters’ deaths also connect back to big mysteries. Nell’s death creates the Bent-Neck Lady, and Ali’s death is a foundational piece of the Sorry Man myth. Ultimately, anyone who enjoys Victoria Pedretti’s Nellie in The Haunting of Hill House will undoubtedly like Ali in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Something Very Bad follows a couple in the week before their wedding, mixing horror, absurdity, and humor to explore fears around commitment. Inspired by creator Boston’s reflections on marriage and personal doubts, the series questions the concept of soulmates and the pressure for certainty in relationships. Showrunner Haley Z.
