The regional carpenters union on Tuesday announced it is endorsing former City Councilmember Cherelle Parker for mayor, adding a politically powerful labor ally with financial might to her side in what remains a wide-open race to lead Philadelphia.

The endorsement continues a hot streak for Parker, who was also recently endorsed by Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union and who launched. But the race is still very much up for grabs, with 12 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 16 primary election. In the lead up to the 2015 election, electricians union leader John J. Dougherty, who was also the head of the Building Trades Council,But the Philadelphia carpenters union, led by Ed Coryell Sr., had long feuded with the other building trades and with Dougherty, most notably over work at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. They endorsed State Sen. Tony Williams , who finished second to Kenney in 2015.

Norcross was one of the first people to meet with Kenney on the night he won the primary election in 2015.
