Ten singers and bands from across the Alamo City will compete in KLRN's 'City Showdown' starting tonight.
The show"highlights San Antonio's dynamic musical talent and creates engagement while also educating viewers on their City Council districts," Ian Cruz, community engagement and media manager for KLRN, wrote in an email."KLRN hopes this series also encourages civic awareness in preparation for the upcoming municipal election this May.
The competition series offers an opportunity for local artists to showcase their music through the PBS station, Cruz added. While there will be five finalists in the competition, there will be just one winner, who will be featured on the channel at a later date. Cruz wrote that if the series is successful, it could return again next year, potentially with an expansion to surrounding areas.
"We would love to do another season featuring more local artists and additional cities - such as Alamo Heights, Boerne, etc.," Cruz wrote."KLRN serves 33 counties in South Central Texas, so inviting more neighbors to participate could be a possibility in the future."
