A student at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Texas shot a teacher and died by suicide, the Comal County Sheriff's Office says
A 15-year-old student allegedly shot a teacher at a Texas high school on Monday, March 30, then died by suicide, according to authorities. The shooting unfolded at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde and resulted in the teacher’s hospitalization, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said in a series of updates shared to Facebook on March 30.
“We do not know the status of her condition at this time,” Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said about the teacher at a March 30 news conference. Authorities are investigating whether the teacher taught the 15-year-old, who “died at the scene,” Reynolds said.“This situation was contained very, very quickly,” Reynolds said. Authorities have not specified exactly where the shooting occurred or how the teen allegedly got a hold of a gun but that is now being investigated. Hill Country College Preparatory High School was put on lockdown as a result of the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. “Students were safely transported to Bulverde Middle School to be reunited with their parents,” the sheriff’s office said in a news alert. In an update at 10:33 a.m., the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook that “We want to make clear that there is no threat to any students at this time. Students are safe and the school remains on lockdown because this is an ongoing investigation.” The school was closed on Tuesday, March 31, according to Hill Country College Preparatory High School Principal Julie Wiley, WOAI-TV reported. “Our hearts are with everyone impacted, especially that teacher, their family, and our school community,” Wiley said in a statement, according to the TV station. “We know this has been a difficult day.” “What happened today is something no community ever wants to face, but we prepare for something that we hope never occurs,” Reynolds said at the news conference. Hill Country College Preparatory High School is a part of the Comal Independent School District, which has more than 30,000 students attending district schools. The high school “has a strong focus on academics and college readiness skills” and allows students to take electives including computer science, cyber security and engineering, according to the school’s website.
