Governor Greg Abbott has activated the state's emergency response resources due to the threat of severe weather in parts of Texas.
With parts of Texas under the threat of severe weather , Governor Greg Abbott has activated the state's emergency response resources. Parts of North, Central, East and Southeast Texas have seen or are expected to see strong to severe storms. The National Weather Service says the risks include large hail, damaging wind, flash flooding and even possible tornadoes.
The Texas Department of Emergency Management has activated Texas A&M Task Force 1, which has swiftwater rescue boat squads to help with flood rescues. Urban search and rescue teams for Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2 have been placed on standby. 'Texas is prepared to deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to severe weather threats,' said Governor Abbott in a statement. 'As Texans and out-of-state visitors begin traveling after the Christmas holiday, it’s crucial that everyone regularly monitor road conditions, make an emergency plan, and heed the guidance of state and local officials. I thank all the emergency response personnel for their work this holiday week as they help their fellow Texans during these storms.' The Houston area has been placed under a Tornado Watch until 7 p.m
