Scooby Williams is returning to his home state for Mobile’s annual all-star game.

National linebacker Scooby Williams of Texas A&M practices for the Panini Senior Bowl on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday will be something like a middle-school game for Texas A&M linebacker Scooby Williams .

That’s because he’ll be competing against Williams is playing for the National team and Keenan for the American team in Saturday’s all-star event. Williams and Keenan were teammates for four seasons at Ramsay High School in Birmingham, but they were middle-school rivals on competing teams. The only time their college teams squared off came in 2021, when Williams was a Florida freshman, but Keenan didn’t play as a redshirt freshman with the Crimson Tide. “I’m wishing we were on the same team,” Williams said. “But unfortunately, we got to compete against each other, but it’s cool just being here with my old teammate and seeing how far we came together and just being able to go through this process together.” Williams said he and Keenan learned growing up in Birmingham’s football culture that “hard work and dedication” go a long way toward success. “I’ve seen a lot of great people make it to college,” Williams said, “and I’ve seen a select few make it to the NFL, and they just set the tone for everybody who came after them.” Williams cited New Orleans Saints cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry, Jacksonville Jaguars safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Cleveland Browns linebacker Mohamoud Diabate as models. McKinstry played at Pinson Valley, Silmon-Craig at Fultondale and Diabate at Auburn. At Ramsay, Williams earned first-team All-State honors in 2018 and 2020 and honorable-mention recognition in 2019. In his final season, Williams also won the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A Lineman of the Year Award. “I played D-end for my high school career,” Williams said “and I got to college, they moved me to off-ball linebacker, so I had to learn the game differently. I had to learn a whole new type of way of playing football. But it opened my eyes to things like schemes, formations, play calls. So yeah, being able to lead a defense, too.” Williams said what he hopes to show the talent evaluators gathered in Mobile for the Senior Bowl is that he “can cover and come downhill. That’s really what you need in today’s game as a linebacker, so just showing that.” The Panini Senior Bowl is set for 1:30 p.m. CST Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile. NFL Network will televise the game. The contest will be Williams’ first game back in his home state since Nov. 23, 2024, Texas A&M lost to43-41 in an SEC game at Jordan-Hare Stadium even though Williams made seven tackles, recorded 1.5 sacks and broke up one pass for the Aggies. “Last time I came to Alabama to play a game, we lost,” Williams said, “so, hopefully, on the National team, we win. But, yeah, it feels good.”“Scooby Snacks, man,” Williams said about the origin of his nickname. “You know, the gummies. Not the dog treats; the gummies. They’re smooth, especially the blue ones, like the light blue ones. Magical. … “I’m going to always love my name. Jeremiah’s my real name. That’s the name my mama gave me. But I love Scooby, too, because it gives the fans something to look forward to calling me.”Former Alabama high school standout takes Senior Bowl opportunityThe 2025 season is the 12th that Mark Inabinett has covered players with Alabama football roots in the NFL. Inabinett's byline appeared in a newspaper for the first time in 1976. The intervening years have...
