After twice having their windows smashed, the owners of Campfire Coffee in Tacoma are using the unexpected funds from a GoFundMe campaign to purchase hiking gear and donate it to the community.

Someone smashed out the windows of Campfire Coffee in Tacoma twice in just a few days, but the owner is turning this act of violence into a way to empower the community. Two plywood boards now stand in the front windows of Campfire Coffee . 'It literally felt like someone was coming after us personally. It feels like they want to come after Campfire for some reason,' said Quincy Henry, the co-owner of the business.

Henry tells FOX 13 Seattle someone smashed out his window on Wednesday, then it happened again on Saturday. The shop is family owned. Henry and his wife opened in 2020. He said while coffee is their business, the great outdoors is their passion. 'We started a little nonprofit called the explorers club where we have a free library here in the shop plus a free gear library,' Henry said. The Henrys created a GoFundMe for the unexpected cost of the damage. In just two days, nearly 400 donors rallied together to raise $18,000 for the mom-and-pop shop. 'I was kind of hoping that we would get enough to like maybe help us pay for these windows, not for it to go crazy like it did, and because it’s gone crazy, now the whole focus of the GoFundMe has shifted,' he said. With the extra money from the GoFundMe campaign, Henry tells FOX 13 Seattle he is going to buy hiking gear to donate to the community. 'It’s not about us. It’s never been about us. But because I feel like we’ve been targeted, I feel like we’ve been singled out, we’re going to make a big show that this is what Campfire does,' he said.
