Austin-based coffee roaster El Tigre Coffee Roasters is bringing its global coffee and culinary experience to San Antonio's historic St. Paul Square. The new shop, opening next month, will be the brand's first foray into the Alamo City and will occupy the space formerly held by Vice Versa Coffee Shop & Vinyl Records.
St. Paul Square is poised for a revival with the arrival of El Tigre Coffee Roaster s. The Austin -based company will take over the space vacated by Vice Versa Coffee Shop & Vinyl Records last March, marking their first venture into the San Antonio market. Located at 123 Heiman St., the new shop will serve as a smaller counterpart to their flagship store on Austin 's East 12th Street.
El Tigre is spearheaded by Tatanka Guerrero, a multifaceted entrepreneur known for his work as an artist, designer, and restaurateur. He founded Camp East, a business collective on Austin's East Side, under his Dreamers & Doers Hospitality brand. Guerrero previously gained recognition for his restaurant, Al Campo, in Marfa, and more recently, for his Oaxaca-meets-Japan cocktail lounge, Trona, in Austin. The first El Tigre location opened in 2019.Guerrero expressed his enthusiasm for entering the San Antonio market, stating, 'San Antonio is a special place, and I’m honored to have been welcomed with open arms into this community.' He added, 'My El Tigre team and I look forward to serving San Antonio residents for years to come and we can’t wait to get to know all of our new downtown Eastside neighbors, including all the bakers, pastry chefs, and farmers, and producers as we look to source as much as we can locally.' El Tigre is renowned for its beverages crafted with globally sourced coffee beans, and a breakfast and lunch menu will be unveiled next month. The shop will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guerrero, a prolific developer with projects across Texas, Los Angeles, and Miami, hinted at further ventures in San Antonio, saying, 'I have some new culinary concepts in the works for San Antonio that will open soon, so there is much to be excited about.'
