With dangerously cold and inclement weather conditions dominating the 10-day forecast, Cuyahoga County is warning residents about health and safety.

Recommended necessary precautions include the layering of warm and dry clothing, as well as covering exposed skin with gloves, scarves and warm boots.Hypothermia signs include shivering, confusion, slurred speech and drowsiness.

Residents are advised to limit time outdoors during extreme cold alerts and to seek shelter and medical help if symptoms appear.In Lakewood, Cove Community Center is serving as a warming center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.“It’s important for the city of Lakewood to open Cove as a warming center in cold weather,” Lakewood Mayor Meghan George said. “It provides a safe, warm space with basic necessities when temperatures drop dangerously cold. It’s acting as a vital community safety net.” In North Olmsted, Director of Recreation & Public Engagement Tim Pinchek said the city invites residents during periods of extreme cold weather to visit the recreation center between 5:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.Visitors are asked to check in at the front desk upon arrival. Both Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township are promoting the Jenkins Center Senior Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for anyone needing to charge electronics, get warm or enjoy a hot coffee.
