A national nonprofit organization is cancelling a student led protest this week that was designed to denounce the brutal violence at Garfield Heights schools. The One in Five Foundation for Kids, based in Dallas, Texas, says it has received several threats of serious harm ― and they don’t want to see anyone hurt.

Chapin says the foundation’s efforts to work with Ohio State Representative Darnell Brewer have also hit a roadblock. This comes two weeks after Brewer appeared on Brewer said he would work with district officials, parents, students and the community to address issues of violence. However, foundation officials say Brewer has, “never reached out...since addressing the media publicly, nor has the district. From the foundation standpoint - he has lied!”
Brewer also says he’ll address the student violence issues at the annual “Back to School Kickoff” this Thursday ― and again on October 2nd at the Garfield Heights Civic Center.
