Davis will take charge of this first game in the Europa League showdown with Aris Limassol.

Interim Rangers boss Steven Davis is playing his cards close to his chest as he was put on the spot over whether he wants the job permanently.

The 38-year-old is preparing to take charge of his first game in the Europa League group stage since Michael Beale 's sudden departure after the Scottish Premiership defeat to Aberdeen. It was been a whirlwind couple of days for the new man in the hot seat after receiving the call from the Ibrox board on Monday to replace the Londoner on a temporary basis.

Davis was straight into training at Auchenhowie on Monday morning alongside the new-look management team consisting of Alex Rae and Steven Smith - and the stand-in Rangers boss admits he is looking to grasp the chance to lead the side. Speaking ahead of his first game in charge, Davis said: "I have ambitions and am determined to make the most of this opportunity I have been given..

"I thought it was too good an opportunity for me to turn down. I want to help this club in any way I can. We are all together and focused on getting the results back. We have the experience with the coaches alongside me, I have had a lot of messages from coaches I have worked under previously and I really appreciate the support from everyone."
