The route is just beyond the border of Lancashire but well worth the journey
We're heading beyond Lancashire's borders for this week's suggested walk - though still staying well within the historic county borders.
This route starts at Freshfield train station, near Formby in Merseyside, meaning it's a handy one for those using public transport as well as drivers. It then covers six miles, passing by an RAF station where you'll catch a glimpse of aircrafts and through scenic woodland in the Ainsdale Nature Reserve, where aquirrels are a common sight.
The first leg of the route runs alongside the busy Formby Bypass but after that, it's a much quieter and more peaceful journey as you move away from the traffic and into natural surroundings. After completing the route, we suggest a stop at the Freshfield pub for some food and drink. The pub is located near to the start and end point and is dog friendly.
