Beachwood residents looking ahead to warmer days spent on the pickleball courts can get their game honed by attending winter pickleball clinics. See below for more information. Under the theme “Many Voices, One CommUnity,” the city of Shaker Heights, in collaboration with the city’s library, school district, high school PTO, and the Shaker Schools Foundation, will present the following events in celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

-- Senior Art-Making Event, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building, 3450 Lee Road. -- Arts-Inspired Celebration, at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Shaker Heights Middle School auditorium, 20600 Shaker Blvd. Live music will be provided by Dave Gulley and the Cleveland Chorale. -- Community Conversation & Catered Meal, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at St. Dominic School, 3455 Norwood Road (parking lot entrance is on Van Aken Boulevard). Residents are invited to attend to share a catered meal and participate in a discussion with neighbors around the question: What can we do to make sure Shaker Heights is a beloved community?The Shaker Heights Recreation Department is asking residents what they would like funded -- a dog park, outdoor basketball courts, more pickleball and tennis courts, a new pool or ice rink, a recreation center, walking trails, or turf fields?Participation is voluntary, and users may sign up to receive select messages including weather warnings, air quality alerts, road closures, and more. Users will receive emails but may also sign up for other notification options, such as text messaging, voice memos, and phone calls. The city encourages all to sign up so that as many residents as possible can be reached in case of emergencies and other alert scenarios.The Beachwood Historical Society and city of Beachwood are collaborating to once again celebrate their Hometown Heroes. Nominations are being accepted through Feb. 2
