A Starbucks in one of Seattle 's busiest neighborhoods shut-down without warning earlier this week, and it comes at the height of the summer tourist season.
While it is one of Seattle’s most dynamic street corners, workers at surrounding businesses said there are ongoing safety issues. Shops have to constantly watch for thieves, and people in crisis leave plenty of others on edge. The foot traffic at 1st and Pike is tremendous this time of year, but Cunningham said they also have their share of trouble-makers.
Starbucks declined to say if safety concerns were a factor and stated in an email, "We’ve determined it is best to temporarily close the store...as we evaluate how best to offer a warm and welcoming environment for customers and partners at this store."
