Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan are dealing with knee issues, and the Spurs would prefer to have them healthy for a full summer training schedule
AUSTIN – Spurs fans have probably seen the last of some of the team’s more prominent players for the remainder of the season.Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said third-year guard Devin Vassell and rookie forward Jeremy Sochan were unlikely to play in the club’s final two regular-season games due to lingering knee issues.
“I would love for Jeremy to be playing in these games, and I would love for Devin to be playing in these games,” Popovich said. “At this point, it doesn’t make sense to go out and get it hurt and exacerbate what they already have and then to not have them training all summer long for next year.” The 23-year-old Vassell returned March 2, but has not played more than four games in a row since. He has missed five games in a row.
The Spurs conclude the season with a back-to-back -- Saturday against Minnesota at the Moody Center in Austin and Sunday in Dallas – and are expected to again be shorthanded for both.
