While at SDCC2023, Screen Rant spoke to Roddenberry Entertainment CEO Rod Roddenberry and COO Trevor Roth about the legacy of Gene Roddenberry, the expansion of StarTrek, and the franchise's timeline:

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The legacy of Star Trek has grown far beyond what creator Gene Roddenberry could have ever imagined, in part with the help of his company, Roddenberry Entertainment, which continues to champion his mission through new shows and movies.

Rod Rodenberry: Yeah, yeah. No, absolutely. My father early on recognized the power of what television could be and how it could influence, how it could do good, maybe how it could do bad. He was clearly a smart man who took advantage of that. He had views of the future. He had an incredible life. We are in this resurgence of Star Trek, and it's obviously grown in the last few years. What has that been like because it went from Discovery to all of these shows?

When there's a situation, to look at both sides and perhaps both sides of you have valid points of view. And that's some of the best Star Trek. There are some great episodes where you come in with an opinion and then they show you the other side and you're like, "Oh my God, I don't know what I would do in this sit situation." And that is great because now you're thinking and you're asking questions.Rod Rodenberry: There you go.

Trevor Roth: To your point, I guess what I would say is as a cautionary tale, that is one just very large cautionary tale about like, "Hey, let us not think that we know everything. Let us make sure we are looking at other perspective. Let us make sure we are thinking about the advantage points of other beings, people, what have you, before we decide on a plan of action or how we feel or how we should be thinking about things.

Trevor Roth: Yeah, no, I mean I know that, and it is not just an us question, but I will say that I think the idea today of making sure that you are actually taking all the different ways you can engage a franchise like Star Trek, and making sure that each of those ways is not a regurgitation of something you already know but true storytelling in its purest form is most assuredly the goal.

Rod Rodenberry: Trevor did an incredible job, but he built this giant, well right in our lobby, it's I don't know, a nine-foot poster of the Star Trek timeline. And it's when every show was on, it has this sort of timeline for TV and timeline for movies and where things cross over and he went in and he identified all the gaps and he identified the important moments, when Star Fleet was created. And when you look at this thing, you can just visually go like, "Oh my God.
