Didn't watch this until college cause I was as adverse to watching horror films. Opened up an entire new world for me. Incredibly fun and paced so well throughout. The screenplay is to die for. So influential. So many tried to be this but never could. It is just that good.I love classic slashers like Halloween and Friday the 13th, but I'd never even seen a slasher until I watched Scream when I was only 10 years old. It made me fascinated by the idea that these movies had their own set of rules that they followed, and it made me curious if they ever broke them. Because of Scream's meta approach to the horror genre, the franchise as a whole makes horror fun as well as scary. This first film is easily the best of the franchise.I think this one was by far the best out of all of them. I have seen all of them and still consider this one the best.This is one of my favorite films of all time. It is completely unmatched by anything that even remotely tries to be like it and Billy and Stu deserve their place of honor in the horror franchise. This is so whacky while still genuinely being a good horror movie. You almost want to believe it's a parody and really, it almost does become a parody of itself later on in the franchise, but I've never turned this on and not enjoyed it. The cast is amazing, the story is iconic, and it doesn't need bright theatrics or cheap tricks to be good. It's so simple and genius, and because of that, it will never not be a defining film for horror buffs everywhere. However, I will say that the rest of the franchise could use some help or maybe they should just stop altogether, but this specific one will live on infamy.
