A man has been left unable to have sex and will never have children after doctors inserted a controversial mesh implant in his groin.

He said: “I’ve lost a testicle as a result of the mesh, I can’t have sex and I can’t have children. Seven surgeries later I’m disabled and in constant pain. I can barely walk some days. The Scottish Global Mesh Alliance was behind the petition calling for an independent review, which was debated at Holyrood in January.

“The surgeon told me he was going to put a bit of mesh in, it was gold standard and I’d be back in work after two weeks. There was no information on the mesh or the fact it could move, fold, crack or cause autoimmune diseases.” Martin said: “A meeting with the Women’s Health Minister is welcome but mesh isn’t just an issue faced by women. Of our“Globally there are more men who undergo hernia mesh operations than women and some men are left in chronic pain, unable to have children, with erectile dysfunction and unable to work. The mesh can attach to the spermatic chord, causing pain and stopping the testicle from functioning normally.

Scottish Labour health spokesperson Jackie Baillie said: “For too long men and women suffering from painful mesh inserts have been ignored by those in power.After 16 years of this SNP Government, it is disgraceful that we are still seeing such awful situations unfolding while it is too distracted by its own internal chaos to notice.
