Bella Dae Garza was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Emilian Josiah Ramirez.
A 26-year-old San Antonio woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the drunken driving crash that killed a teenaged bicyclist in 2022. Bella Dae Garza was 23 when she was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of Emilian Josiah Ramirez, 18, on March 22, 2022. San Antonio police said Garza was intoxicated when she lost control of her Toyota Camry and hit Ramirez as he rode his bicycle about 10:30 p.m. on Basse Road near Alamo Quarry Market.
Reports indicate the vehicle rolled onto its side after the impact. Garza also faced a charge of endangering a child because she had a juvenile passenger in the vehicle, according to Bexar County court records. As part of an agreement reached between prosecutors and defense attorney Rafael Leal in November, Garza pleaded no contest to one count of intoxication manslaughter. In exchange, a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was dropped, court records indicate. Garza appeared Friday before state District Judge Velia Meza, who sentenced her to 12 years in prison on the intoxication manslaughter charge. It is unclear when Garza would become eligible for parole. Her case was heard in the 226th District Court
