Coming off the success of the film Sinners, which broke box office and Academy Award records, Coogler’s long-developing take on an influential 1990s classic took a big step forward at Hulu this past February.
The Woman in the Yard star Danielle Deadwyler was cast as a co-lead in The X-Files pilot, with Coogler writing and directing the debut episode. It's now confirmed that Himesh Patel has been cast in Coogler's X-Files reboot at Hulu opposite Danielle Deadwyler. The actor is known for his roles in Tenet, Yesterday, and Don't Look Up. Although no specifics are available yet, it's confirmed that Deadwyler and Patel will be playing new characters. What Himesh Patel's Casting Means For The X-Files Reboot The casting of Patel marks a reunion between him and Deadwyler, as the two previously worked on the acclaimed HBO miniseries Station Eleven. Patel received an Emmy nomination for his role in the post-apocalyptic drama, marking a high point in a career that began when Patel starred as Tamar Masood in the British soap EastEnders and was part of more than 500 episodes. In film, Patel is recognized to audiences as the lead in the Beatles-infused film Yesterday, directed by Danny Boyle, and playing the role of Mahir in the Christopher Nolan film Tenet. He'll soon reunite with Nolan on the upcoming blockbuster The Odyssey, playing Eurylochus, and he can currently be seen opposite Riz Ahmed in Prime Video's James Bond-esque comedy Bait. Plot details remain hidden. However, it's known that the X-Files reboot will put focus on two highly decorated but very different FBI agents as they form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-closed division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena. If the project moves forward, it will be a big spotlight for two great actors who have delivered consistently memorable performances.
