The Genesee Waterways Center will participate in National Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The event gives participants the opportunity to try out rowing with coaches on hand to offer guidance.
The Genesee Waterways Center’s coaches will be available during Saturday's event at 149 Elmwood Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. According to Genesee Waterways, the minimum age requirement tends to be about 11 or 12 because rowers need to be at least five feet tall; those shorter will be undersized for the rowing equipment., Inc., a not-for-profit youth rowing organization founded in 1999, will also host a local event from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Fairport Crew Club Boathouse at 1399 Fairport Road, which can be accessed behind AMF Bowling.
According to the Fairport Crew Club, participants will have the chance to receive instruction from knowledgeable coaches who will guide them through the fundamentals of rowing technique, safety protocols, and boat handling. Attendees will be treated to live demonstrations by skilled rowers, witness testimonials from athletes who have experienced the transformative power of rowing firsthand, and have the opportunity to ask questions, learn about upcoming events, and tap into the vast resources available within the rowing community.
