Rochester, N.Y. — University of Rochester students are protesting once again on River Campus Friday night.
Protest ors demonstrated outside of Wallis Hall on Friday after a second sit-in, Friday, May 3, 2024.
Students re-entered the Wallis Hall building after previously occupying the building on Wednesday morning. "We have the opportunity to number one, divest from institutions in Israel," he said. "Number two, we're going to look to start programs of exchange students and allowing students from Gaza who don't have the right to go to universities no more."
"A request to divest from Jewish institutions, it is a request to divest from institutions that are complicit in the ongoing violence in Gaza," said Travis Covitz, a University of Rochester Medical School staff member who is also Jewish."As an Israeli, it's very hurtful to see that maybe people that I know cannot come to this school because they're advocating for divestment," said Hannah Ben Ami, a junior at the University of Rochester.
