Rochester police investigating a deadly triple shooting in the area of Denver Street and Hazelwood Terrace Monday, Aug. 12, 2024. Rochester , N.Y. — Police arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting that killed one teen and injured two others on Monday, and now local leaders are calling for change.
Captain Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit said both suspects were actively on parole at the time of the shooting, and had just left court before they were arrested again. Umbrino went on to renew calls for change to parole. In 2022, the "Less is More Act" dramatically changed the conditions under which parole absconders could be held in custody for violations.
Calls for state-wide change in Rochester were joined by Jim Vanbredrode, the Republican candidate for State Senate. He was accompanied by fellow candidates Tracy DiFlorio, and Marcus Williams.
