A humanoid robot introduced Melania Trump at a White House AI summit, showcasing advanced speech and language abilities.
Why It Matterstook center stage in one of the most historic rooms in the White House, a setting traditionally reserved for human leaders and landmark announcements. The event highlighted both the promise and the growing visibility of humanoid robots as policymakers and educators grapple with how emerging technologies should be introduced to younger generations.
Figure 03 is a humanoid robot developed by the AI robotics company Figure. In the video from the event, it is seen walking independently on two legs, maintaining balance as it moved through the East Room and later exited via the Cross Hall. During its speech, the robot framed its participation as part of a broader effort to connect technology with education. "Thank you, first lady Melania Trump, for inviting me to the White House," the robot said during its remarks, calling the moment an"honor." "I am grateful to be part of this historic movement to empower children with technology and education," it added. After completing its prepared remarks, Figure 03 concluded by offering greetings in 11 different languages, each delivered with precise pronunciation, before leaving the room. The robot’s ability to speak fluidly, deliver a formal address and switch seamlessly between languages appeared to be a central feature of the demonstration, aligning with the summit’s focus on artificial intelligence and learning.During its White House appearance, the robot demonstrated the ability to walk independently on two legs, maintain balance and deliver a clear, scripted speech to an audience. But, on its website, Figure says that the robot is capable of much more. Tasks Figure 03 are capable of include taking care of household tasks including laundry, cleaning and doing dishes. It is able to interact like a human, listening and taking action when given tasks, and can even navigate stairs, corners and shifting layouts. The robot’s post on X quickly attracted hundreds of thousands of views as viewers reacted to the unusual pairing of cutting‑edge robotics and the White House’s historic surroundings. As discussions around AI regulation, education and safety continue, appearances like this one may become an increasingly visible part of modern life.
