Reynolds’ time with the Dragons comes to an end after two seasons on the sidelines, leading the team to a 19-7-4 overall record.
DOTHAN , Ala. - For the first time in the club’s history, Dothan United Soccer will be hunting for a new head coach, as Carl Reynolds will be stepping down as the Dragons manager. The announcement was made in a joint statement sent out on Thursday by both the club and Reynolds, with the coach thanking Dothan for accepting him over the last couple of years.
“When I first took on this role, I expressed my belief that we could bring championships to Dothan, and together we have fulfilled that promise by securing the USL League Two Southern Conference Championship,” Reynolds said. “As my career continues to evolve, I believe now is the right time for my family and I to step aside and allow new leadership to take the helm. “Although this was an extremely difficult decision, I am confident that Dothan United will continue to thrive and achieve success for many years to come.” Reynolds’ time at Dothan comes to an end after two seasons on the sidelines, leading the team since it’s founding in 2024 to a 19-7-4 overall record. The most successful under Reynolds was in the most recent 2025 season when the Dragons took home the USL League 2 Southern Conference Championship after a historic run to the national semifinals in the club’s first-ever postseason appearance. In December, Reynolds was named as the new associate head coach for Liberty University’s men’s soccer program. His commitments at the Division I university were cited as a major reason to the decision for the beloved coach and the Circle City soccer team to part ways. “The Dothan United organization has a mix of emotions regarding Coach Carl Reynolds resignation,” Team President Steve Donner said in the joint statement sent out Thursday. “We are so happy and proud of Carl in his new position and the role our organization has played in his growth as a coach. “He is leaving Dothan with a tremendous foundation to continue to build on as he helped put Dothan Alabama on the map in the soccer world.” Donner told WTVY News4 that Reynolds will remain in contact with the organization in an advisor role, and has provided assistance as Dothan United begins a national search for their next head coach. Donner says the organization hopes to be able to make an announcement about the team’s next gaffer in the coming weeks as the club prepares for a busy, and hopefully successful, 2026 season.
