IPOH: Muslim couples who get married abroad must still register their marriages with the Perak Islamic Religious Department, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
He said only the syariah court can decide if their marriages are lawful and recognised."They will still need to register in the state," he said after presenting aid to children whose parents or guardians had died of Covid-19 here on Wednesday .
"If they can register, then there will be no issue for their children to get birth certificates," he added. It was reported that the Selangor Islamic Religious Council does not recognise any marriage of local couples conducted abroad if they are not registered with the state Islamic Religious Department.
