The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said the bridge at the Spring Creek crossing in Swatara Twp. and Paxtang is scheduled to be replaced in 2027-28.
The public can comment online about the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's plan to reconstruct the Derry Street bridge in Swatara Twp. and Paxtang Borough. The information on the plans includes a new alternative that would have the project done in three stages instead of two.
The work is expected to be done in 2027-28.on the project that initially was expected to be rebuilt in two stages. PennDOT has added a potential three-stage plan.The project will include replacing bridge beams, the bridge deck, repairing the northeast wing wall and rehabilitating the abutments. The bridge will be reconstructed in stages while maintaining two-way traffic.PennDOT said when the bridge beams are removed and new ones installed, there will be full closure for up to six weekends. Previously, PennDOT planned to reconstruct the bridge in two stages. As an alternative, PennDOT said it may reconstruct the bridge in three stages while maintaining two-way traffic and space for pedestrians. The three-stage option may be necessary depending on the coordination and timing of other local and PennDOT projects. The project is currently being designed with construction expected to take place in the 2027-2028 construction season.
